The Art of Business - Austin, 2009
On April 16, 2009, The HBMG Foundation, HBMG Inc., and the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA) held the first ever Art of Business, an exhibit showcasing the artwork of Senior and C-Level Executives. Twenty-four of Austin’s C-level and Senior Executives donated their artwork to be auctioned off in order to raise money for the HBMG Foundation and Austin Museum of Art. Held at the beautiful AMOA-Laguna Gloria, the event was a huge success for all parties involved. If you know very little about the HBMG Foundation, the one thing to know is that we thrive on collaboration between arts, business, and technology. Taking the creativity of the arts, the knowledge from business, and the advancement in technology is a way to develop ideas for the future, and to make a positive change for our community. With this in mind, The Art of Business was born.
The Art of Business came about by chance after a number of friendly lunches among friends at HBMG, Inc., the HBMG Foundation, and the Austin Museum of Art. At one of these lunches, the topic of CEO's as artists came up, and a light bulb went off. The idea was to have an art show that showcased the artwork of Senior and C-level Executives. All works were sold by silent auction and proceeds benefit both the Austin Museum of Art and the HBMG Foundation. The evening was complete with live music, libations, and hors d'oeuvres. The event was such a resounding success that all parties involved have agreed to make it an annual event. To top it all off, the City of Austin presented a proclamation, declaring it Art of Business day.
HBMG Foundation
It all began with a spark. Founded in Austin in 2004 by Board Chairman Manuel Zarate, HBMG Foundation has partnered with business, educational, and arts organizations to build relationships and encourage imaginative thinking. The HBMG Foundation was created as part This is how the symbiotic relationship between HBMG Inc., a technology services and public communications consulting firm, and the HBMG Foundation functions, creating a dynamic tension that holds both organizations in balance, but also allowing for great flexibility. Manuel's overarching goal for the Foundation was to focus on the support and development of creativity and collaboration in all artistic disciplines. Working towards this end, the HBMG Foundation introduced its flagship program, the ArtSpark Festival, in the summer of 2005. The following year found the HBMG Foundation looking for more ways to get involved in the Austin community and branch out into new areas. This was achieved through the adoption of a popular local film festival, Flicker Austin, and the expansion of the ArtSpark Festival. In recognition of the Foundation's vision and work, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presented the HBMG Foundation with their Arts Leadership Award. Today, the goal of the HBMG Foundation is to continue to provide professional opportunities for emerging artists and technological innovators to improve their skills. They offer contact with experts in arts, technology, and business, which gives artists a broader understanding of their discipline. The HBMG Foundation strives to be a resource for people who understand that the concepts of openness and playfulness can create new perspectives and ideas. They champion imagination. They encourage mavericks. They push play. To learn more about the HBMG Foundation, visit www.hbmgfoundation.org
