President
As the Founder and President of HBMG, Manuel Zarate, has more than 20 years experience in the field of systems integration, workflow analysis, communications and the arts. Manuel has negotiated contracts, managed projects, and worked in direct support of the following notable clients: Accenture, HDR, Fluor, Atkins, AT&T, Sprint, Northrop Grumman, IBM, Raytheon, Navy, TxDOT, Parsons Brinkerhoff, Zachery, Cintra, Jacobs, Texas Public Utility Commission, Sears, Texas Division of Information Resources, Texas Department of Health and Human Services and others. He has served as the Senior Information Technology project manager and advisor for numerous projects nationwide and has led the development of project control systems on some of the largest construction projects in the country.
He is considered an entrepreneur and creative visionary. His multi media experience has revealed the potential of communication using technology to create one on one experiences amplified millions of times over using the web.
He is a playwright, photographer and poet of note. His work on the relationship between non-profits and profits had lead to the development of different funding models. In 2004, he established the HBMG Foundation to support the development of creativity and innovation in arts, technology and business. The foundation has advised and mentored hundreds of creative entrepreneurs. He has served as a mentor to numerous entrepreneurs and continues to serve as an advocate for creativity as a chief economic driver and foundation for America’s role in the global economy.
He has evangelized the concept that America’s borders are no longer defined by a map but by the reach of its technology. He is a guest speaker at many events and speaks on the role of creativity and technology in our society.
David Smith

As a noted futurist, technologist, and business leader, David brings more than 30 years of experience in digital convergence, strategic planning, and emerging technologies to the helm of HBMG. David has assisted in creating and implementing plans for Fortune 100 companies, emerging companies, universities, and government agencies, including Bank of America, Boeing, the CIA, Lockheed Martin, National Security Agency, Sun Microsystems, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
As a leader in innovation, he has played an integral role at two of the nation's most successful consortia, SEMATECH and the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC), designing IN-Q-TEL for the United States intelligence agencies, the intelligence community’s research and development venture capital solution, and working as one of a three-person coordination committee and on the steering and implementation committees that developed the highly respected Semiconductor Industry Association National Technology Roadmap.
As an invited keynote speaker, teacher, and presenter, David’s compelling orations have captivated a range of audiences. He is also quoted in many publications, classes, and books. In addition to being a senior research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin IC2 Institute, David was awarded the SEMATECH Eagle Award for a 1993 Strategic Plan and the Council of Consortia Award for Extraordinary Contributions and Achievement in Technology Transfer.
